Wyndham B. Blanton Scholars Forum
The Virginia Historical Society held the Wyndham B. Blanton Scholars Forum July 22–24, 2010. The focus of this revamped program was Virginia's evolving identity. Over these three days, high school juniors and seniors worked closely with VHS staff members to learn first-hand how history museums operate. Students had the opportunity to help create video segments for the online tour of our award-winning exhibition The Story of Virginia: an American Experience. Participants also took a driving and walking tour of Richmond, looking at how vastly the city has changed over the course of the centuries.
After their stay at the museum, students returned home to create entries for a new VHS-sponsored blog entitled "The Changing Face of Virginia." Students were asked to describe their perception of Virginia's identity in their own region of the commonwealth using writing, photographs, or videos. Forum participants will then return to the VHS in October to attend the annual J. Harvie Wilkinson, Jr., Lecture, where they will be recognized before the society's members and special guests.
The Wyndham B. Blanton Scholars Forum is underwritten by the Alfred I. duPont Foundation, Inc.
