Howson W. Cole Award
In 1991 the long–serving senior archivist of the VHS, Howson W. Cole, retired, after presiding over the society's manuscripts collection for almost four decades. In his honor, the VHS decided to honor him by creating an award that would recognize staff service as devoted as his was. The award is not given out annually but only when a deserving staff member is worthy of recognition.
