Education Award Winners
Brenton S. Halsey Award
The annual Brenton S. Halsey Teaching Excellence Award goes to a Virginia teacher who demonstrates scholarship, enthusiasm, and creativity in the classroom. The award is named in honor of Brenton S. Halsey, former chairman of the board of trustees, current honorary vice president, and long-time friend of the VHS.

Bobby Chandler Student Award
The Bobby Chandler Student Award is made possible by the Kip Kephart Foundation. It recognizes a secondary school history student who has demonstrated knowledge, creativity, and research skill in using primary source materials.

Anne R. Worrell Middle School Student Award
Each year the Virginia Historical Society confers this prize on a middle school student who demonstrates distinction in historical research and scholarship. The winner of the Worrell Award has completed a paper or classroom project that is creative, uses primary source materials, and demonstrates a knowledge and understanding of some facet of American history. The award is named in honor of Anne R. Worrell, former member of the board of trustees, current honorary vice chairman, and long-time friend of the VHS.
