Reports to: Building Services Manager

FSLA: Non-exempt

The Virginia Historical Society seeks a qualified candidate for the position of security officer.  This position will be responsible for patrolling assigned areas to ensure the protection of visitors, employees, and property of the VHS.

Controls and monitors access and egress from the museum, including the monitoring of cctv, fire alarm and burglar alarm systems.  Reports irregularities, security breaches, facility & safety hazards, and contacts emergency responders.

Monitor all contractors, venders or visitors while they are in non-public areas unless accompanied by other staff members.   Manages receiving and delivery of all inbound and outbound correspondence (FedEx, UPS as examples)

Knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Must be at least 18 years of age or older
  • Have or obtain a Commonwealth of Virginia security registration card
  • Must pass a criminal background check
  • Ability to communicate effectively for the purpose of public interaction and report writing
  • Neat and professional appearance and demeanor
  • Have the ability to work a flexible and/or rotating schedule that may require staying
  • Must be able to work at least 2 weekends a month
