High School Historians Forum
The Virginia Historical Society will hold the High School Historians Forum (formerly the Wyndham B. Blanton Scholars Forum) from July 20–23, 2011. In honor of Virginia’s sesquicentennial commemoration of the Civil War, scholars in this summer’s program will find themselves immersed in the study of Civil War–era topics. Over the course of four days, VHS staff will engage students in an exploration of the Civil War’s influence on Virginia and its inhabitants.
In addition to following a Civil War in Richmond tour, led by Andrew Talkov, Exhibition Coordinator for the VHS’s An American Turning Point: Virginia and the Civil War, students will create video content for the Society’s website, and work with specialists in the field of Civil War studies.
Overnight accommodations for Forum participants will be provided at Virginia Commonwealth University’s GRC dorms, and all meal expenses will be paid by the VHS staff.
The 2011 High School Historians Forum is open to all rising high school juniors and seniors.
All applications must be received no later than June 10. Please read the instructions carefully to ensure that all the materials required to complete your application are sent to the VHS.
All of your materials can be submitted digitally by emailing Caroline Legros, School Program Coordinator, at clegros@vahistorical.org. You can also fax your materials to the VHS at 804-355-2399, or mail a hard copy to us at the address below:
