A Night at Virginia House

Date of Program: Friday, May 4 - 5, 2012; program runs from 6:00 pm on Friday until 8:00 am on Saturday

Intended Audience: Junior Girl Scouts

Description of Program:
Have you ever wondered what happens at night in the museum? This educational and interactive experience allows Junior Girl Scouts to participate in activities while learning about the museum and its history. Girls will have the opportunity to complete activities towards the Drawing, Flowers or Playing the Past badge.

Registration fee: $28 per Girl Scout; $10per adult leader

General Information:
Participation is limited to registered Girl Scouts and their leaders. Non-registered siblings are not allowed to partake in the program.

An evening snack and light breakfast will be served.

Registration deadline is May 1. Any no-shows or cancellations after this date will not be refunded.
Groups are prohibited from bringing their own food, candy or drinks inside the museum.

Adult leaders must supervise their group at all times. Each troop must have one adult leader trained in first aid. In addition to the permission slips kept by Girl Scout Troop leaders, additional release forms will be kept at Virginia House.

Emergency contacts – Troop leaders may keep their cell phones on vibrate while in the museum. Parents should contact a troop leader if they need to reach their daughter during the event.

Packing List for each Girl Scout and Leader:
• Sleeping bag & pillow (Sleeping mats are allowed, but please no air mattresses.)
• Toothbrush & toothpaste
• Brush/comb
• Comfortable shoes – Shoes must be worn while moving around the museum.
• Bring a sweater, sweatshirt or dress in layers.
• Wear the clothes you will sleep in!

What Not to Bring:
• Electronic devices such as games, cell phones, iPods, etc. You MAY bring a camera!
• Hairdryers or curling irons
• Food inside the museum
• Air mattresses
• Flashlights

General Timeline/Activities:

Friday, May 4
6:00 pm–participating troops may bring their own dinner and eat in the gardens
6:30 pm–check-in begins
Only pre-registered troops will be admitted to the museum. Each troop must have 2 leaders stay for the entire program. Gear should be stored in the Gallery.
7:00 pm–Welcome and review schedule of events.
Museum will be locked and alarmed. Group will review safety procedures.
7:10 pm–Workstation for badges
Girls will move around workstations throughout the museum. Each station will have a museum staff overseeing the activities.
9:30 pm–Evening snack and group activity in Gallery. This will included games, discussion of activities and video.
11:10 pm–Setup sleeping area
11:30 pm–Lights out!

Saturday, October 22
7:00 am–Rise & shine
7:15 am–Pack up gear
7:30 am–Breakfast and badge presentations
8:00 am–Depart
