Annual fund

You can give directly to vital core-mission programming at the VHS—projects that help advance our mission and make the past accessible to everyone.

Cardinal from Edwin Sheppard's Birds of Virginia (2000.165.8)The annual fund underwrites innovative educational programs, compelling lectures and exhibitions, long-standing research and publication initiatives, professional and web-based services, and the conservation and preservation of an incomparable collection—projects that help advance our mission and make the past accessible to everyone.

As a private institution—not a state agency—the VHS depends on charitable contributions to fulfill its educational mission.

Help us remain one of America's premier historical organizations by making your annual fund gift online today; or by sending your tax-deductible gift to the attention of Cathy Boe at the address below.

The annual fund program provides an opportunity to give special recognition in VHS publications, to those whose gifts are $150 or more. Gifts of $250 or more also include membership dues and benefits at the corresponding level of contribution. Corporate matching gifts count toward your total annual contribution.

VHS Facts

The VHS is the oldest, continuously operating cultural institution in the state and one of the oldest historical societies in the country.

In 2004, the Virginia General Assembly formally designated the VHS as the Official State Historical Society, recognizing it for its "special commitment to the Commonwealth's schoolteachers and their students," its stewardship of collections, and its ongoing development of comprehensive programs.

The VHS also is the only southern member of the Independent Research Libraries Association.

The VHS is accredited by the American Alliance of Museums—the highest national recognition for a museum and a designation awarded to only one in ten museums in the country.  This status signifies excellence to the museum community, funders, outside agencies, government, and to the museum-going public. Make your contribution to the annual fund today.
