Annual Sale of Museum Display Cases and Exhibition Furniture

The Virginia Historical Society is hosting its annual fixture sale of museum display cases and exhibition furniture on Wednesday, May 25, 2011. Hundreds of items used to house objects in collection storage and showcase artifacts in past exhibitions will be for sale at up to 90% off fabrication prices.

The sale is free and open to the public. It will take place at the Virginia Historical Society, located at 428 North Boulevard in Richmond. Items will be on display from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Objects for sale include floor and wall cases, frames, object mounts, risers and pedestals, glass cubes, audiovisual units, slide and negative sleeves, card file cabinets, audio storage boxes, pamphlet files, glass retail fixtures, and more.

In addition, the VHS is selling thirteen interior-lighted display cases that have housed the Maryland-Steuart Collection of Confederate weaponry at the VHS for nearly two decades. The cases fit together in a U-shaped configuration. All of the cases have secure visible areas for display, and eleven have lockable drawers for storage.

Sealed bids, for these 13 cases only, will be accepted beginning immediately until 4:00 p.m. on May 25. The VHS was recently notified that the society has been awarded national funding through the Save America’s Treasures program to conserve the Charles Hoffbauer Military Memorial Murals. The Maryland-Steuart Collection cases must be removed so the conservation work can take place in that gallery.

All sales are first come, first served on May 25. All objects will be sold as is. Anyone purchasing objects must provide their own labor and transportation. The pieces must be removed from the VHS by Thursday May 26. Cash, checks, and credit cards will be accepted. No objects may be removed prior to payment.
