Banner Lectures

Each year, the VHS hosts a number of noontime lectures that are open to the general public. Held in the Society's Robins Family Forum, the Banner Lecture series continues to be a highlight of the VHS calendar for many people. View a list of past Banner Lectures available to download.


Lumpkin's Jail
"Hidden Things Brought to Light"

On February 28, 2009, the VHS cosponsored a conference about Richmond's African American history. "Hidden Things Brought to Light" presented recent scholarship on two downtown Richmond historical sites, the Burial Ground for Negroes and Lumpkin's Slave Jail.

Patsy Cline
Symposia

The VHS presents special symposia that focus on topics relating to Virginia people, places, and events. The 2008 symposium was "Sweet Dreams: The Life and Times of Patsy Cline." The 2006 symposium, "Virginians in the White House," brought some of the top historical talent in the nation to the VHS. View a list of past symposium lectures available to download.
