Under Eighteen Free
Virginia Historical Society Offers Free Days for Families and Children
Richmond, VA – Families visiting the Virginia Historical Society (VHS) in 2007 will be in for a pleasant surprise. Effective January 2, 2007, the Society will no longer charge admission to its award-winning galleries for children under the age of eighteen. Additionally, the Society recently moved its general free admission day to Sunday to allow more families to take advantage of the galleries over the weekend.
"We were concerned with keeping the VHS an affordable, fun destination for families," says Dr. Charles F. Bryan, Jr., president and CEO of the Virginia Historical Society. "By eliminating a fee for children under eighteen and moving the free day to Sunday, we've provided more opportunities for families to visit without breaking the bank."
The VHS will continue to offer a reduced rate for seniors fifty-five and older on Tuesdays. Adults and seniors visiting other weekdays will continue to pay $5 and $4, respectively. Group rates are also available when booking guided tours. The VHS will feature three major exhibitions in 2007: Pocahontas, February 10–June 24; Jamestown, Québec, Santa Fe: Three North American Beginnings, March 17–September 3; and Lee & Grant, October 13, 2007–March 31, 2008. Visit www.vahistorical.org for more information.
"We have a number of great exhibitions planned for 2007," adds Bryan. "We hope that the changes in admission will mean more families can come and see what a great resource we are for teachers, students, adults, parents, and grandparents throughout the Commonwealth."
The Virginia Historical Society is located at 428 N. Boulevard. The Story of Virginia, An American Experience,
a 10,000-square-foot exhibition with more than a thousand objects covering all of Virginia history from prehistoric
times to the present is featured in the Robins Center for Virginia History. Hours: Monday-Saturday 10am - 5pm
and Sunday 1pm - 5pm (Museum Galleries only). Admission: $5/adults, $4/seniors 55+ ($2/Tuesdays–galleries
