VIRGINIA HISTORICAL SOCIETY SALUTES MILITARY AND THEIR FAMILIES ON ARMED FORCES DAY
Free admission to military personnel and their families on Saturday, May 20, 2006
Richmond, VA – In acknowledgement of Armed Forces Day, the Virginia Historical Society (VHS) is offering free admission to all active duty, retired, and reserve military personnel and their dependants on Saturday, May 20, 2006. This offer is extended to the galleries at the VHS and Virginia House.
"It's our way of saying 'thank you' to the brave men and women who serve this country," says Dr. Charles F. Bryan, president and CEO of the VHS. "My daughter was in the Navy, and as a veteran myself I understand the sacrifice made by our men and women in uniform and their families. Our manuscripts and archives collections contain letters or diaries from young soldiers in every one of our nation's wars. They are a touching part of the record of bravery, sacrifice, service, and, sometimes, loss that represent the character of our armed forces. I hope that by opening our doors to the military and their families this Armed Forces Day, the VHS can return the service to this community, and perhaps families can enjoy a memorable day in our galleries or out at Virginia House."
The Virginia Historical Society is open from 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Exhibitions on display that day include the following:
