VIRGINIA HISTORICAL SOCIETY CELEBRATES GRAND OPENING OF NEW WING WITH FREE OPEN HOUSE
Grand Opening and Open House to be held Saturday, July 22, 2006, 10 am–5 pm
Richmond, VA – As part of plans to celebrate its 175th anniversary, the Virginia Historical Society (VHS) is holding an open house on Saturday, July 22, 2006, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The star attraction of this event is the new wing—a 54,000-square-foot addition begun in July 2004. "This wing is a new Home for History," said Charles F. Bryan, Jr., president and CEO of the Society. "In addition to much-needed storage space, the wing gives us a classroom; the new, theater-style Robins Family Forum; and 3,000 square feet of gallery space for the new exhibition, Virginians at Work." Virginians at Work uses objects, photographs, and multimedia stations to tell the story of how Virginians have made a living. The exhibition will debut at the open house, which is sponsored by the Norfolk Southern Foundation.
