How to use finding aids to manuscript collections

Finding aids for manuscript collections at the Virginia Historical Society provide supplementary details on contents and locations of materials not included in catalog records. Those records can be found in the society's online catalog.

To request materials in the library reading room, users must complete a call slip for each specific item or group of records desired. Please refer to box and folder numbers, if provided, as well as series identifications, in making such requests. More about library procedures

Offsite users requesting information about or copies of specific materials should cite descriptions and locations when corresponding with reference department staff.
