In the Classroom: Making a stone spear point

A stone blank was first flaked with a hammerstone

A stone blank was first flaked with a hammerstone around the edge and on both surfaces.

The biface was next thinned

The biface was next thinned with an antler hammer to create a flattened cross section.

Pressure produced the final shape

Pressure applied with an antler prong to the edges, base, and tip produced the final shape. The finished spear point was then attached to a shaft with sinew and natural glue, (made from deer hoofs).
