Becoming Confederates

U.S. Flag  United States flag of thirty-one stars, one of the first to fly over captured Richmond after Union troops arrived April 3, 1865. It descended in the family of Frederick Martin, brevet lieutenant colonel of volunteers, captain 1st Eastern Virginia Volunteers, who worked for the U.S. army in Richmond until 1866.
