Map of Virginia, 1630

Map of Virginia, 1630

Captain John Smith's map of Virginia was first published in 1612 and later appeared in his Generall Historie of Virginia in 1624. Various additions and changes were made in the several states of the map issued before 1632. This, the tenth state, is from 1625. Jamestown and several capes are the only English place names. Large letters spelling Powhatan show the extent of his dominions.
