SOL-based tours of our award-winning exhibition, The Story of Virginia, are tailored to match grade-specific SOLs that are essential to students’ understanding of history. Walking through our 16,000-year timeline of Virginia history, your students will be surrounded by artifacts and manuscripts that immerse them in the past and allow them to make connections between their curriculum and our collections.
You are able to choose a comprehensive tour of the exhibition that covers all Virginia Studies SOLs, or instead, you may choose to have your tour focus on one period of history for a deeper exploration of Virginia’s past.
Our museum educators will lead your students on a journey that covers more than 16,000 years of Virginia history. Students will begin their journey by learning about the first Virginians, and then they will travel along the Virginia timeline to the present day. During their tour, they will learn about the Founding Fathers, transportation, war, equal rights, and other topics covered in their textbooks. Students will view original and replica artifacts. This tour option covers the entire Story of Virginia exhibition.
